Why Have Live Wedding Painting

There’s something so special about seeing a moment painted as it happens. My live wedding painting captures the atmosphere, emotion, and beauty of your day in a way that feels timeless and full of heart. Guests love watching it come to life throughout the celebration, and the finished piece becomes a beautiful reminder of your day to hang in your home.

Before the wedding, I like to get to know you and your venue, so the painting truly reflects your story and the feel of your day. I arrive early to set up quietly and blend in, chatting with guests as I paint and letting the artwork unfold naturally. Afterwards, I finish the details in my studio and add a few personal touches, like a handwritten note on the back, before hand-delivering it to you.

It’s a creative, heartfelt way to remember your wedding, something to cherish long after the day has passed!

We were so lucky to receive the most beautiful wedding painting from Charlotte. It was the perfect gift from our family and something so much more meaningful than simply giving money.

Frequently asked questions

The short answer is 5 hours on the day and around 40 hours in the studio before I can hand deliver the painting to you!

On your wedding day, I’ll meet the coordinator or your main point of contact first thing, just to make sure everything runs smoothly. Then I’ll head over to the ceremony space to set up my easel and canvas. I like to tuck myself somewhere with a beautiful view of the scene but out of the way, so I can quietly take it all in while the day unfolds.

I usually arrive about two hours before guests, giving me time to soak up the atmosphere and start building the foundation of the painting. By the time everyone arrives, I’ll already have the composition sketched out and the main colours in place, so there’s something lovely and recognisable taking shape right from the start.

I’ll stay for around four to five hours in total, often painting until the sun begins to set and guests move to the reception. By then, the piece will be well established and ready for many more hours (approx 40 hours) of careful work in my studio, where I refine all the details and add those little touches that make it feel truly complete.

Every painting is different, so the process varies, but I usually allow about six to eight weeks for the finished artwork. I never rush it, I paint until I’m completely in love with it. Most couples are happy to wait, often saying things like, “We have forever together we’re happy to wait!”

When it’s ready, I’ll sign the back of the painting, wrap it carefully, and hand-deliver it to you, sometimes even for a little reveal party! It’s always such a special moment seeing your reactions and reliving your day together through art.

I actually paint you in later, once I’m back in my studio. On the wedding day, I focus on capturing the atmosphere, landscape, lighting, and overall composition, the feeling of the day itself. Then, a few weeks later (usually around 2–3 weeks), I begin painting you into the scene after the layers of oil paint have had time to dry a little.

Once your photographer has delivered your gallery, I’ll ask for a few of your favourite photos and I’ll also have a look through to find a natural, candid moment that fits beautifully into the painting. I love choosing a pose that feels authentic and effortless, not one where you’re looking at the camera, but one that captures your connection.

Even if the perfect shot doesn’t exist in one photo, that’s the magic of painting, I can merge photos, adjust the composition, and create something that feels just right. It’s a creative process that takes shape naturally, blending the real and the romantic.

While all paintings are unique, I always include the venue, the beautiful elements you’ve curated (florals, decoration) and the newly wed couples moments after saying “I do” – kissing, hugging, smiling, walking down the isle together ect…”

Yes you can! The standard size is 400mm wide x 500mm high, but I can look into any size you like and get one made custom for you at an extra cost.

My style of painting is impressionist painting, I really look up to the old masters like Monet, Pissarro and Renoir. I use oil paints just like them! They blend so beautifully, have a little texture and shine. Unlike acrylic which dries so so fast, the slow drying oil paint allows me to work with colours and blend until I’m happy!

I would love a possible shaddy spot if its a hot day and a staff meal would be greaty appriciated.

I’m happy to travel for your wedding if you are willing to provide transport and accomodation.

The live wedding painting is  about capturing your beautiful venue and the special elements of your wedding. Once the oil paint has dried, back in my studio I can add you from any photo taken that you love (whether at the registry office, church ect…)

Of course! We can catch up and discuss how your wedding looked and felt, go through photos and take note of all the special elements you’d like to include in the painting! Contact me for reduced pricing as this does not require the live painting aspect.
